New Comms Director at Port of Long Beach

Public Affairs Officer for the Long Beach City Manager’s Office, a position she has held for almost three years. As Director of Communications and Community Relations for the Port, she will oversee media relations, crisis communications, community engagement and educational outreach at the Harbor Department.    The Communications Division works with all divisions of the Harbor Department to disseminate information to the public, media and industry stakeholders about the Port’s role in facilitating domestic and international trade as the second-busiest seaport in the nation.

Port of Long Beach Promotes Lewis

The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners approved the selection of Stacey Lewis as Director of Human Resources Services to lead the division that administers employment for the Harbor Department. The appointment is effective July 1. Lewis, the Port’s Assistant Director of Human Resources, was promoted to Director following the retirement of the previous HR Director. Lewis joined the Port of Long Beach in 2008. She was appointed Assistant Director of Human Resources in January 2009. Port of Long Beach Names Two Engineering Executives

The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners this week named two Harbor Department engineering leaders as the new Chief Harbor Engineer and the new Director of Program Management. The Appointments are effective April 29.   Suzanne Plezia, the Port's Director of Construction Management, has been promoted to Senior Director of the Engineering Bureau’s Program Delivery Group. The position also holds the title of Chief Harbor Engineer. Plezia is the first woman to be Chief Harbor Engineer of the Port of Long Beach. Port of Long Beach Adds Three Directors

The Board of Harbor Commissioners has approved the appointments of new directors for the Port of Long Beach’s Finance, Surveys and Transportation Planning divisions.   Maurina Lee, previously the Harbor Department’s controller, will become the Director of Finance. She has been controller since March of last year and was previously finance manager for the city of Downey from 2006 to 2015. Port of Long Beach Names HR Director

Long Beach Harbor Commission Elects Officers

President and Vice President, respectively.   Under the City Charter, the mayor of Long Beach appoints City residents to the Harbor Commission for a six-year term. Commissioners oversee the Port and direct the CEO, who in turn manages the more than 500-person staff of the City of Long Beach Harbor Department in the development and promotion of the Port of Long Beach.

Port Long Beach Prepares Future Leaders

Port honored transportation pioneer Matson, Inc., as its 2015 Champion of Education for inspiring students to pursue careers in international trade.   The event keynote speaker was Anthony Rodriguez, a procurement representative for The Walt Disney Company, who was a college intern at the Harbor Department from 2010 to 11 as well as a Port International Business Scholarship recipient in 2011.   The Port awarded scholarships totaling $58,500 to 27 students from Long Beach high schools, Long Beach City College and California State University, Long Beach.
