TNPA Rotates Harbor Masters
Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) will be implement several inter-port transfers within its complement of Harbor Masters, effective July 1, 2018.The changes will allow ongoing development of TNPA’s Harbor Masters through their exposure to other ports within the Ports Authority’s network of complementary ports. Tug Safety Training Offered at Port of Milford Haven

Captain Vernal Jones succeeds Willem Roux, who resigned earlier this year. Jones – who has served as Harbor Master at the Port of Richards Bay and more recently at the Port of Cape Town – brings extensive knowledge in marine operations to the table. He is expected to continue to lead the delivery of TNPA’s strategy to transform Saldanha into a service centre for the oil and gas sector.

Aberdeen Harbor Names Harbor Master, Marine Manager
Aberdeen Harbor Board said it has completed the restructuring of its Marine Operations Department with the internal appointment of Captain Jeff Gaskin as new Harbor Master and Alexandra McIntosh as Marine Manager. Gaskin, formerly the Harbor’s Marine Superintendent, has been appointed Harbor Master following the retirement of Captain Ray Shaw. Gaskin has 26 years’ experience within the maritime sector. He started his career as a cadet with Louis Dreyfus Shipping in 1990 and enjoyed spells with both PNTL and Cunard before ending his seagoing career with Vector Offshore in Aberdeen.
New Harbormaster for Port of Taharoa
Maritime New Zealand has appointed Captain Jon Peters as harbormaster for the Port of Taharoa, replacing Maritime NZ staff member Capt. Richard Lough, who held the role on a temporary basis. Capt. Peters brings to the role more than 25 years’ maritime experience, including working as a cargo superintendent, ship agency manager, ship surveyor and cargo terminal manager. Most recently, he was General Manager of a multi-cargo ship terminal in West Africa, handling around 230 ships a year. The Port of London Authority (PLA) has appointed Bob Baker as chief harbor master. Bob Baker will join the PLA from Forth Ports, where he has been chief harbor master since 2001. He will succeed David Phillips, who is retiring from the PLA in April, after nine years’ service. Bob Baker’s seagoing career lasted from 1975 to 1991, before he came ashore to work at the Port of Tilbury, latterly as general manager, conventional operations and harbor master.
