The Nautical Institute Launches New Requirements for DP Certifications

From the beginning of 2024, The Nautical Institute will require that all Dynamic Positioning Operators (DPO) and Dynamic Positioning Vessel Maintainers (DPVM) show evidence of Continuing Professional Development as well as experience in order to renew their certificate.This means that all DPOs and DPVMs will be required to demonstrate a yearly undertaking of an NI-approved CPD program and pass the NI revalidation online exam or take the NI DP Refresher and Competency Assessment Course.Captain John Lloyd, Chief Executive Officer of The Nautical Institute, said, “This requirement is a very positive

San Marino Ship Register said it has hired Rear Admiral Giovanni Greco to develop institutional relations and national maritime legislation.A graduate of the Genoa Nautical Institute, R. Adm. Greco’s career started on board merchant ships in Europe, the United States, the Persian Gulf, and the Far East. In 1991, he joined the Italian Coast Guard until his retirement in May 2022. Cape Town Hosts Nautical Institute Command Seminar

Lloyd to Lead The Nautical Institute

The Nautical Institute has selected a new chief executive officer after interviewing a competitive shortlist of six candidates. Captain John Lloyd MBA AFNI, currently the Institute’s chief operating officer, will take over from Philip Wake OBE RD MSc FNI, who will retire in May 2017 after 14 years in post.   Lloyd took up the COO post in November 2015 in which he has had overall responsibility for the institute’s specialized training services, including the industry-standard dynamic positioning operator (DPO) accreditation and certification scheme.   His 16-year seagoing

GE Provides DP Sea Time Reduction Course

GE’s continuous efforts to help increase marine industry safety standards for operators recently resulted in the endorsement of The Nautical Institute’s (NI) accreditation for GE to conduct a dynamic positioning (DP) sea time reduction (STR) course in its modern DP training center in Houston.
