The Nautical Institute informs it is is enhancing its sector management structure with the creation of a new role with overall responsibility for business development, personnel and product management of a key department, reflecting the increasing demand from industry for training services.
It is currently recruiting for the new post of Chief Operating Officer, whose main responsibilities will include but will not be limited to taking the accreditation and certification department into a strategic position within the industry. The COO will be responsible for leading a 20-strong team that works on accreditation and certification but will also be actively involved in other training schemes. Management of the industry-standard dynamic positioning operator (DPO) certification, which The Nautical Institute administers on behalf of stakeholders, will be the primary focus for the COO.
The current Director of Accreditation & Certification Services, Regina Bindao, has decided to develop her career in consultancy after seven years with The Nautical Institute. Bindao will leave at the end of August but will continue to provide consultancy services on a project basis to The Nautical Institute and other sectors of the industry.
Commenting on the changes, Philip Wake, Chief Executive of The Nautical Institute said, “In shipping, as in life, nothing remains the same for long and after four years of managing the increasing global demand from industry for our accreditation and certification services, Regina Bindao has decided to develop her career in a new and more independent direction and role. Regina joined the Institute in 2008 and has developed through the departments. Her good management skills consistently produced outstanding work and achievements in often challenging circumstances and supported the development of the services provided by this busy department.”
“Recruitment for her successor is already underway with the new position of Chief Operating Officer. The COO’s remit reflects the important position that the training and accreditation department occupies within The Nautical Institute and is ideally suited to candidates with offshore qualifications and strong management capabilities,” Wake said.
