Hapag-Lloyd Names Sonne Senior Managing Director for North Europe

German container shipping company Hapag-Lloyd announced Joerg Sonne will become Senior Managing Director Region North Europe, succeeding Martin Rolf, who will take over the position of Managing Director Human Resources.Sonne joined Hapag-Lloyd as a result of the merger with UASC and successfully led Area Arabian Gulf from 2017 to 2022. 63 Begin Apprenticeship at Hapag-Lloyd

At the beginning of August, 63 young colleagues began their apprenticeship program at Hapag-Lloyd.Thirty of them are learning the typical seafaring jobs like ship mechanic, nautical officer or technical officer, while the other 33 are training to become shipping merchants or to work in office management and in the areas of transport and logistics.  Wolfgang Freese, President Region North America, will be retiring after almost five decades with Hapag-Lloyd.    Freese began his career in the shipping company in 1971 with an apprenticeship to become a shipping agent. Hapag-Lloyd, UASC Focus on Staff Training

Combined the newly merged German shipping line Hapag Lloyd and Arab sector peer UASC have more than 4,800 sales and customer service personnel represented in 125 countries around the globe.   Now as the shipping lines continue the transitional integration period, a global training program is already underway for all UASC staff joining Hapag-Lloyd.   In all, around 1,700 days of training are planned, and face-to-face trainings have already started in Asia, Europe and the Middle East. UASC, Hapag-Lloyd Merger: No Layoffs?

 Will there be a layoffs after United Arab Shipping Co (UASC) merging with the German container shipper Hapag-Lloyd?   Middle Eastern enterprise UASC expects most of the tie-up’s $400 million cost savings to come from operations rather than layoffs, The National reports quoting UASC chief executive Jorn Hinge.   UASC's initial hypothesis is there will be fewer layoffs than many people would normally expect in a merger, he said.   The largest portion of this amount comes from deploying the optimal size ship for each of the trades where the combined company will operate
