ClassNK Creates Cyber Security Team

ClassNK established a cross-sectional cyber security project team made up of ship and security experts of the society, as cyber security for ships is entering a practical stage, including the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) resolution encouraging administrations to ensure that cyber risks are appropriately addressed in existing safety management systems no later than the first annual verification of the company’s Document of Compliance after January 1, 2021. Senior Executive Vice President Hiroaki Sakashita was chosen to lead the new team.

ClassNK Names Sakashita Senior EVP

Effective March 12, 2019, Mr. Hiroaki Sakashita has been appointed as Senior Executive Vice President as well as Executive Director of ClassNK.Sakashita began his career at Japan’s Ministry of Transport (now Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism) in 1980. During his period at the government he has played vital roles in maritime administration including regulatory oversight and industry development. He assumed the position of Director-General of the Maritime Bureau in 2015, and Deputy Minister for Technical Affairs, Minister’s Secretariat in 2016.He joined ClassNK in 2018

Shigemi Named Executive VP at ClassNK

Dr. Toshiyuki Shigemi has been appointed as Executive Vice President as well as Executive Director of ClassNK, effective March 7, 2016.   Yasushi Nakamura has stepped down as Senior Executive Vice President, and has been appointed as an Advisor to the Society.   Dr. Shigemi joined ClassNK in 1981. After a career including roles in plan approval, ClassNK’s research institute, and on-site surveys, he took up the position of General Manager of the Development Department in 2008, where he was responsible for overseeing ClassNK’s rule development activities for over one decade

ShipDC Launches with New Leader at the Helm

Ship Data Center Co., Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary set up by ClassNK, has officially commenced operations of its big data center, ShipDC, from April 2016.
