Pearl Harbor Shipyard plans to hire 731 workers

December 19, 2014

Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard is planning to hire 731 workers this fiscal year, a significant boost for high-paying jobs at the Hawaii's largest industrial employer, according to a report on  http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com.

If you're looking for a job, there is no shortage of openings at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. For the next fiscal year the shipyard is looking to bring in 731 new employees, according to an official release from the shipyard.

This hiring spree comes as a response to offset nearly 270 departing employees through retirement and other means.

Putting this mass hiring in perspective, normally Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard only takes on 100 to 150 new apprentice each year. This time around they plan to hire 306. The peak amount of apprentices the shipyard has ever had came during World War II when there were about 200 on sight.

40 to 100 engineers are typically hired during a year's time; this fiscal year there will potentially be 200 new hire engineers.

The combined amount of new hires for the fiscal years of 2012 (163) and 2013 (371) is still less than what Pearl Harbor is looking to hire this fiscal year.
