Shipbuilders Havyard 'First Taste' Program for 20 Youngsters

July 11, 2014

Norway's Havyard says that for two weeks 20 young adults have been participating in the company's introduction program, visiting some of the locations where it is located: Fosnavåg, Ålesund, Leirvik and Sopot, Poland.

Different activities, guided tours aboard ships and presentations about how it is to work in an international company, have shown the youngsters how much a maritime company like Havyard has to offer.

Two of the participants, Nikolai Kvellestad and Benedicte Pettersen thought that the visit in Poland and to witness the international collaboration, was the best thing about the program. “To see how they construct the ships – the design I mean – like we saw in Poland. And how they use computer tools to design and calculate”, says Nikolai, who studies Marine Technology.

Havyard explains that its aim has been to encourage the young people to choose a career in the maritime industry, which is very important on the West Coast of Norway. By presentingthe diversity of occupations, as well as introducing  interns already working in Havyard has given the 20 young people a better idea of what this maritime industry has to offer.
