SCHOTTEL Sponsors Student Scholarships

March 16, 2022

SCHOTTEL, the manufacturer of ship propulsion systems based in Spay/Rhine, is investing more in the promotion of talented and high-achieving students in 2022. The German medium-sized company announced Wednesday it is sponsoring several scholarships at the Hamburg University of Technology.

The financial support is also accompanied by non-material support such as mentoring programs and visits to the headquarters in Spay and the production facility in Dörth.

Since the winter semester 2021/22, three students have been financially supported within the framework of the Deutschlandstipendium, and three more will follow in the winter semester 2022/23. Students Jonathan Achstetter, Elias Möller and Nils Sichert were selected as scholarship holders by the Hamburg University of Technology.

Jonathan Achstetter, master student in naval architecture and marine engineering, said, “The topics of propulsion and hydrodynamics have always been of particular interest to me. So SCHOTTEL's sponsorship is a perfect fit: For me, there are a lot of overlapping topics and I am excited to learn how the products are developed and produced.”

Elias Möller, bachelor student in naval architecture, said, “I am very happy that I can make contacts in the maritime industry already during my Bachelor's studies. In this way, I can gain valuable insights into the working world and get a lot of interesting information first-hand.”

Nils Sichert, master student in engineering with a specialization in mechanical engineering, said, “As a trained boat builder, I had early contact with the maritime industry. That's why I'm all the more pleased now that I'm not only expanding my theoretical knowledge as part of my studies, but also enriching it with practical experience of a traditional German company.”

In addition to the already established areas where SCHOTTEL supports young people, such as trainee programs and theses promotion, SCHOTTEL said it is taking on a special responsibility for training young talent by investing in the Deutschlandstipendium (German Scholarships).

Christian Bock, Vice President Controlling, IT & HR at SCHOTTEL, said, “The personal interchange with scholarship holders creates a lively network from which all those involved in the maritime industry can benefit. We are delighted to make contact with tomorrow's best professionals today and to support them in their studies.”

The Deutschlandstipendium of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) supports students at state and state-recognized universities in Germany with 300 € per month, which is awarded irrespective of income. 150 € is paid by private sponsors, 150 € is contributed by the federal government.
