With plenty of places for little pioneers at its child-care center, a wealth of health and fitness offerings, sabbatical opportunities spanning several months, and arrangements for mobile working, Rolls-Royce Power Systems and its subsidiaries provide numerous opportunities to help staff harmonize their work and private life. Hence the company has again received multiple accolades for its HR policy and staff-friendly approach.
For the fourth time running, Rolls-Royce Power Systems was awarded the quality seal 'Career and Family' in recognition of the prominence it gives to family and the life phases of its staff. The 'Career and Family' quality seal also extends to MTU Friedrichshafen group companies, such as, for the first time, the subsidiaries MTU Onsite Energy Gas Power Systems in Augsburg, MTU Onsite Energy Systems in Ruhstorf, and MTU Reman Technologies in Magdeburg. In recognition of its credentials as one of the most attractive employers in Germany, it has now received its eighth 'Top German Employer' accolade and its sixth 'Top Engineering Employer' accolade. It also has a 'Fair Company' certificate testifying to its excellent working conditions and internship opportunities.
Marcus A. Wassenberg, the member of the board carrying the HR portfolio, personally accepted the 'Career and Family' certificate at an event in Berlin. “We undergo these audits because we want to increase our attractiveness as an employer, especially to young people. And we want to have a work culture that is flexible in terms of when and where work is performed, and encourages creativity and a sense of responsibility,” he said. Apart from flexible working time arrangements, the offerings made to employees include health management at all locations, leisure activities and counselling, and the practice of a work culture that recognizes the need to reconcile the demands of work and private life. Rolls-Royce Power Systems is planning to make its working time arrangements even more flexible in the future – which means it will be easier to work from home than before. Locations are also to exchange information on the opportunities they offer more intensively. Furthermore, planning is underway for a survey of child-care requirements with a view to making tailor-made offers to locations.
'Top Employer' accreditation is given by the Top Employers Institute and involves a review of the quality of HR management in nine areas: talent strategy, personnel planning, employee development and training, employee performance management, executive development, career and succession planning, remuneration and benefits, and also corporate culture and innovations. Rolls-Royce Power Systems offers a large spectrum of choice from internship and international exchange programs to mentoring and coaching schemes. And the company's standards of excellence, which are ambitious compared to those of other businesses, are not limited to the realm of HR. Since last year, substantial developments can be seen to have taken place in corporate culture, especially with respect to corporate values, health management, ethics and integrity.
The institute particularly underlined HR performance in the field of talent strategy, personnel planning, employee development and training, and career and succession planning. It also commended RRPS for its orientation towards digitally-based process technologies, which is well above the average. “By using digital tools we safeguard the excellent quality of our HR activities across our business and ensure that a process of continual improvement takes place in future-oriented areas,” explained Wassenberg. With what it has achieved, the company belongs to a select circle of 'Top Employers' and – particularly important for securing young technical talent – 'Top Engineering Employers'.
