MHI Targets Threefold Female Management Increase
Newly Set Target is Aimed to Promote Diversity of Human Resources.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) has set a target to increase the number of the company's female managers (in positions of Section Manager and higher) threefold from the current level by 2020. This initiative is being taken in conjunction with MHI's pursuit of diversity management deemed necessary to further accelerate the company's global expansion and to make the leap to a highly profitable enterprise with a business scale of 5 trillion yen.
Until now MHI has promoted the active participation of its female employees through measures to support women's attainment of a work environment that is in harmony with their childrearing needs. Examples are the introduction of benefits allowing female employees to take childcare leave and the creation of in-company nursery facilities. Going forward, as measures to promote the careers of female employees further, the company intends to change how women employees are treated companywide, support female network building, promote individual career growth plans, and create an environment in which men and women can all work flexible and work in very diverse way.
Promoting active participation of females in the workforce has been cited as one of Japan Revitalization Strategy. At MHI, through the advancement of diversity management the company looks to drive forward its initiative to further globalize its groupwide operations.
