Liodden Named OBR's Sustainability Director

April 18, 2018

Oslo Business Region (OBR) has engaged Birgit M. Liodden as Director for Sustainability, Ocean Industries and Communication, with effect of May 2018.

Liodden will be responsible for OBR’s activities linked to Oslo as European Green Capital 2019, and implementation of sustainability focus throughout all activities. She will also be responsible for ocean industries – a new area for Oslo Business Region – representing vast opportunities onwards.

As part of Oslo Business Region’s strategy, sustainability is a key priority area moving forward. OBR considers the UN Sustainable Development Goals as the world’s biggest purchasing order.

Oslo’s startup ecosystem and industries leads the way in a number of key areas, and with effect from 2018 all of OBR’s services shall strengthen this. The coming 1,5 year OBR will also promote Oslo as European Green Capital 2019, alongside frontrunners from across corporate, startup and public sectors – an initiative Nor-Shipping will also be involved in.

Fredrik Winther, Managing Director said: "Birgit has just the background we have been looking for. Her combination of entrepreneurial experience, her “disrupt from within” work within Nor-Shipping and the maritime industry, and an extensive cross-industrial network both nationally and globally. Birgit has demonstrated her skills to spot new trends early, the boldness of challenging established mindsets, and the capability of initiating change. We also share Birgit’s strong commitment for diversity.”

Jørn Haanes, Startup Director added: “If we were to custom design a person to lead our work on sustainability and entrepreneurship, that profile would look like Birgit’s CV through the past 10 years. Her efforts in the transformation of Nor-Shipping are simply remarkable, and we cannot imagine a better candidate for realizing our sustainability ambitions.”

Birgit Liodden said : “I have been passionate about the combination of sustainability, ocean opportunities and entrepreneurship for years. The past years, Oslo’s government has committed to exciting and bold ambitions which will make Oslo a frontrunner globally. I look forward to contributing in realizing the priorities and ambitions onwards."

She added: "Norway is the Silicon Fjords of the maritime world, and as one of the 3 leading maritime capitals of the world Oslo holds an untapped potential of becoming globally leading destination for ocean entrepreneurs. There are a number of exciting initiatives happening across entrepreneurship, sustainability and ocean space – and now is the time for mobilizing all forces in establishing Oslo as the world’s best place to establish and succeed as an ocean entrepreneur.”
