Posted By June 20, 2014

James Drewry, Treaty/Program Property Underwriter at Munich Reinsurance America, Inc., as well as a former Inland Marine Underwriters Association (IMUA) Chairperson, was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Association at its 84th Annual Meeting. Drewry was one of three individuals recognized by the IMUA.  The others included John A. Tutera, Senior Vice President-Construction & Completed Civil Works, Hiscox, USA for Excellence in Education; and Anne Marie Elder, Senior Vice President & Chief Underwriting Officer, Inland Marine, XL Insurance – 2012 Outstanding Committee Person.

In presenting Drewry with IMUA’s highest recognition, The Lifetime Achievement Award, Rich Soja, a former IMUA Chairman, cited Jim Drewry’s list of achievements since joining the IMUA.  He noted, “Since becoming involved with the IMUA in the late 1980’s, Jim has devoted a great deal of time and effort into making IMUA the effective and productive insurance industry trade association that it is today.

“Jim served on the IMUA Board of Directors for 14 years and was Chairman from 2006 to 2008.  During his tenure he was instrumental in leading the charge to synergize the efforts of the Board, officers and staff resulting in a shared vision and mission.  I am pleased to present my colleague and friend with our association’s highest honor.”

In accepting his award, Drewry said, “It has been and honor and a privilege to serve the IMUA.  From the outset I felt is was my obligation to help foster professional development within the industry, especially among our younger members.  Looking at this year’s annual meeting attendance, I am pleased to see we are making great strides in fulfilling that commitment.  I would like to thank those of you who have served side by side with me on the Board, on Committees and on our delivering our many educational programs.  I accept this award on your behalf.”

Winner of the Excellence in Education Award, Tutera, was recognized for his involvement in advancing the educational and training platform of the IMUA.  Over the years, he has presented at several IMUA events. He has also been a co-chair of IMUA’s Construction Committee for a number of years.

Tutura has wealth of experience in construction underwriting and is often referred to as “the dean of builders risk insurance.”

Elder, this year’s Outstanding Committee Person, has been involved in IMUA for over 20 years.  A previous member of the Construction and Education Committees, she has been an active member of the Transportation Committee since 2009.

Elder is a dedicated supporter of IMUA actively engaging in committee service through the contribution of papers, education/training events and the recruitment of presenters.
