Capuco is Chief Naval Architect of Gibbs & Cox

Gibbs & Cox, Inc., an independent naval architecture and marine engineering firm, announced the appointment of Mr. Benedict P. Capuco as Chief Naval Architect.  In this role, Capuco will provide corporate leadership to the company's naval architecture and marine engineering capabilities and solutions across the Gibbs & Cox global portfolio.

Prior to this appointment, Capuco served as Vice President and Group Manager of the Platform Solutions Group of Gibbs & Cox, leading full ship design projects including commercial projects, foreign navy projects, and U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard projects, most notably the FREEDOM Class Littoral Combat Ship and the Offshore Patrol Cutter.

Capuco has led or mentored most of G&C's full ship design programs, including research and survey vessels, naval landing craft and commercial marine dredges. He also worked on numerous advanced ship design concepts such as Small Waterplane-Area Twin Hull, Surface Effect Ship, Hydrofoil, Trimaran and Deep-V hullforms.

Capuco holds a bachelor's of science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of Michigan and a master's of science in Civil and Ocean Engineering from Johns Hopkins University.  His professional affiliations include:

* Member, University of Michigan National Advisory Board for the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering,

* Member, American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) Scholarship Committee,

* Member, Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) Scholarship Committee and Nominating Committee,

* Instructor, Early Ship Design, SNAME Continuing Education,

* Program Evaluator for the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
