NAWRUS program offers technical training and jobs for young Emiratis

Abu Dhabi Ports, the developer, operator and manager of ports and Khalifa Industrial Zone (Kizad) in the Emirate, recently organized an open day to recruit young Emiratis holding secondary school certificates for port operations jobs. The recruitment process under NAWRUS (The National Way to Ramp Up Success) is part of the Abu Dhabi Ports’ continuous Emiratization efforts in line with the UAE strategy to build a national cadre of trained employees.

NAWRUS program, named after a sea bird associated with ports and ships, is an important initiative of Abu Dhabi Ports to train young Emiratis for port operations jobs. This is the second intake of this annual program.

The open day attracted around 100 candidates who had expressed their interest in jobs with Abu Dhabi Ports at Tawdheef, Abu Dhabi’s leading recruitment event for UAE Nationals, held in February 2016. The process is ongoing to select candidates for various trainee positions such as multi-skilled operators, technicians, security officers, operation supervisors and clerks.

“The enthusiasm of young Emiratis to train for diverse positions within port operations is welcomed. Their positive attitude indicates the young generation’s willingness to take up the wise leadership’s vision of developing a local workforce that can independently manage all critical infrastructures of the nation,” said Abdullah Humaid Al Hameli, Acting /Executive Vice President - Corporate Services, at Abu Dhabi Ports.

This initiative is part of Abu Dhabi Ports’ efforts to achieve 51 percent Emiratization in 2016. Building on the 47 percent Emiratization rate achieved in 2015, the company is rolling out this year’s NAWRUS program that will train secondary school graduates to take up technical jobs. Abu Dhabi Ports has framed a career path for the selected candidates, which will inspire them to work hard and reach higher positions in their career.

Abu Dhabi Ports has several programs to attract Emirati talents, and to train and develop the existing Emirati staff. Under a mentoring program to nurture local talents, the Abu Dhabi Ports’ managers will guide and support selected young Emiratis on career development.

Another program named PIER (Ports International Executive Road) program fast-tracks Emirati employees’ promotion to the top leadership positions. Under ‘Port Pulse’, employees volunteer to be trained for managing and running the entire port operations.
