2023 Robert Allan Memorial Scholarship Award Recipients Announced

The Trustees of the Robert Allan Memorial Scholarship Trust and Robert Allan Ltd. Have awarded two scholarships for the 2023/2024 academic year.Awards have been made to Samuel Shanks of Port Alberni, BC, and Zachary Greenham of St. John’s, Newfoundland.Shanks is a second-year student of mechanical engineering at the University of Victoria, focussed on a career in marine engineering. Throughout high school and university he has gained considerable experience working in various aspects of the marine world.Greenham is a fourth-year student of naval architecture at Memorial University. Robert Allan Ltd. announced that Jonathan Reaume has earned his accreditation as a Registered Professional Engineer with EGBC (Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia).Reaume has been working with Robert Allan Ltd. since 2014 as a Mechanical Engineer specializing in hydrodynamics, propulsion, maneuvering and Computational Fluid Dynamics analysis. Secondary to this work, he has experience designing mechanical systems and providing field support engineering.Prior to this, he worked with a number of motorsports teams as a race engineer and crew chief.He obtained his education from University of

work terms with marine-related businesses.   The Robert Allan Memorial Scholarship Trust was initiated in 1982 from a bequest by the late Robert F. Allan, and with support from his many industry friends and colleagues. The scholarship fund is administered by a committee of senior employees at Robert Allan Ltd. and local members of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers.   The scholarship is awarded annually to the student or students considered most deserving by the applications committee. Uotinen Joins Robert Allan Ltd.

Sami Uotinen will join naval architecture firm Robert Allan Ltd. on October 1, responsible for European Business Development initiatives, operating from Turku, Finland.   Uotinen, a graduate naval architect, joins Robert Allan Ltd. from Rolls Royce, where he has worked since 2000, most recently as North American Sales Manager for Z-Drive propulsion. He has also held positions at Aquamaster, Kamewa and Kvaerner Masa Yards.  

Oben Naki

Oben Naki Heads to Canada

Emphasising the close working relationship which exists between naval architects Robert Allan Ltd and Turkish shipbuilders Sanmar Ltd, Sanmar's Oben Naki has relocated to Vancouver BC to join the Canadian designers as contracts manager (Turkey). Naki joined Sanmar Shipyards in 2007 immediately on qualifying as a naval architect and marine engineer. He has since gone on to obtain an MBA at Yeditepe University in Istanbul, Turkey’s leading educational establishment. Sanmar has currently constructed some 120 tugs of various sizes and power to Robert Allan designs.
