North P&I Club  launched its new ‘Mind Matters’ campaign, including a confidential helpline for crew provided in partnership with the International Seafarer’s Welfare and Assistance Network (ISWAN).The new campaign aims to raise awareness of mental health and well being at sea. McLoughlin Joins North P&I Underwriting Team

New Mental Wellbeing Guide for Seafarers

In a joint initiative, the American Club and Seamen's Church Institute (SCI) have cooperated to produce a new guide, Caring for Seafarers’ Mental Wellbeing, due for release on October 10 in recognition of World Mental Health Day, 2018.The document provides guidance on responding to both routine and extreme stressors impacting the quality of life and safety of seafarers both ashore and afloat, and seeks to promote awareness generally of the importance of seafarer mental well being.Numerous maritime organizations have supported recent initiatives to enhance understanding about the emotional

London based P&I club Britannia said it has finalized plans to open its Greek office in Piraeus as part of an ongoing expansion of the club’s regional hub network.The Greek office will be headed by David Harley who recently returned to the London office having established and worked for over five years as head of Britannia, Hong Kong. NAUTIC-ON has named marine industry veteran Lou Sandoval as national director of business development. Sandoval, who serves on the boards of the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation, Sail America, Recreational Boating Leadership Council and the Chicago Yacht Club where he also serves on the executive board as the Vice Commodore.  Most recently, he spent 16 years as a marine dealer principal at Karma Yacht Sales in Chicago. North P&I Club said it has appointed David Richards as Deputy Director (Cargo), part of the group’s specialist cargo claims team.Richards, formerly a partner with Ince & Co and a Legal 500 recommended dispute resolution lawyer, is a specialist in commercial shipping and trade and brings a range of experience and expertise in dealing with commodities, bill of lading and charterparty contracts. Richards regularly lectures on all areas of shipping and trade law, as well as on litigation and arbitration generally and has a special interest in Japan and the Asia Pacific region.
