Advanced apprenticeships for engineers will soon be available through Robert Gordon University (RGU), Aberdeen thanks to a five-figure funding boost from Skills Development Scotland.

The university has secured $62,670 to develop a new Advanced Apprenticeship Pathway for Engineers at all stages of their career.

The announcement comes during Scottish Apprenticeship Week (May 18-22) which is organized by Skills Development Scotland and supported by the Scottish Council for Development & Industry (SCDI).

The team behind the RGU-led scheme, which will be developed over the coming months, aims to open applications in 2016.

The initiative, which blends worked based learning with academic study, will be available to young engineers studying in Aberdeen, those who are starting their careers, and experienced professionals who wish to develop their skills further.

The university’s link with North East Scotland College also means that students there will be able to apply for an advanced apprenticeship through the scheme.

Professor Ferdinand von Prondzynski, Principal of RGU, welcomed the funding which will help deliver the scheme to help students gain a degree with work-based learning.
