Webb Institute Ranked a Best Value College

Webb Institute, an undergraduate institute specializing in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, ranked number two on Money magazine’s list of Money's Best Colleges, a new approach to ranking colleges that aims to measure educational quality, affordability and career outcomes. Nine months in the making, Money's Best Colleges ranks 665 higher education schools on 17 measures, taking into account the complete cost of a degree rather than a single year. Werner Named Academic Dean of Webb Institute

Webb Institute announced that Matthew R. Werner has been named Webb Institute’s next Academic Dean.   Professor Werner, the American Bureau of Shipping Chair of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, will begin his term on July 1, 2015. Professor Werner is an accomplished educator with extensive leadership and administrative experience. Professor Werner began his career in the ship design, construction, and operations fields and joined the Webb faculty in 2002. In 2010, he was designated Webb’s first American Bureau of Shipping Chair in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.

Webb Awards Crowley, Jr. Honorary Degree

Webb Institute presented Thomas B. Crowley, Jr., CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors at Crowley Maritime (Oakland, CA), with an Honorary Doctorate of Commercial Science degree at Webb Institute’s 119th commencement on Saturday, June 20th.  Since 1994, Thomas B. Crowley, Jr. has served as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Crowley Maritime, succeeding his father and grandfather in these roles, dating back to the company’s founding in 1892.  Today, Crowley is a US-based, $2 billion-a-year marine solutions, energy, and logistics services

Webb Awards Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarship

Hannah Wistort, Webb Institute class of 2017, is the 2016-2017 recipient of Crowley Maritime Corporation’s Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarship.   Webb’s scholarship selection committee chose Wistort for her academic excellence and leadership skills. Wistort, who is from Niskayuna, N.Y., has been involved with many student organizations and community projects. She is a member of the Webb Leadership Committee, which organizes community service and outreach projects for students. She has also been the student representative to Webb’s Board of Trustees and is the co-chair

Webb Institute Picks Crowley Scholarship Recipients

Webb Institute, a four-year college specializing in naval architecture and marine engineering, announced the 2015-2016 recipients of Crowley Maritime Corp.’s Thomas B. Crowley, Sr. Memorial Scholarships. Lawson Joins Bristol Harbor Group

Naval architect Ian Lawson has been hired to join the naval architecture and marine engineering practice of Bristol Harbor Group, Inc. (BHGI).   Lawson holds a B.S. in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering from Webb Institute, where he served as Class President and Honor Council Chairman, and participated on the Education Committee, sailing team, jazz band and choir during his time at Webb.   Lawson interned at BHGI in January and February of this year. Webb Institute Senior Awarded Crowley Scholarship

Crowley Maritime Corp. has awarded a Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarship to Tyler Gray-Hoehn, class of 2018 at the Webb Institute, a highly-selective undergraduate institution in Glen Cove, N.Y., specializing in naval architecture and marine engineering.   Gray-Hoehn, who hails from Brookfield, Wisc., was recognized for his dedication, academic excellence and leadership as a student Webb.   He is senior class president and vice president of the Webb Institute’s Student Organization (SO), and has also been Webb’s Motor Boat Chair, Van Chair and a member of the Honor

EBDG Adds Two Staff Members

Webb Institute Class of 2017 Turns Tassels

On Saturday, June 17, 2017, Webb Institute awarded 19 Bachelor of Science degrees at its 121st Commencement Ceremony. Each graduating student received a dual degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.    Webb’s commencement ceremony opened with the singing of the National Anthem by the WooFs (Webb Family Singers) and included inspirational remarks from the ceremony’s Principal Speaker, Bruce S. Webb Institute Holds 120th Commencement Ceremony

On Saturday June 18, Webb Institute awarded 19 Bachelor of Science degrees at its 120th Commencement Ceremony. Each graduating student received a dual degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.    Webb’s commencement ceremony, opened with the singing of the National Anthem by the WooFs (Webb Family Singers), and included inspirational remarks from the ceremony’s principal speaker, Donald T. Bristol Harbor Group Hires Lorenc

Bristol Harbor Group, Inc. (BHGI) has added recent hire Jennifer Lorenc to its naval architecture and marine engineering practice.   Lorenc joined BHGI as a Naval Architect in August of this year. She is a recent graduate of Webb Institute in Glen Cove, N.Y., where she received a Bachelor’s of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. During her time at Webb, Lorenc completed five internships. A few of the companies she interned at include, General Dynamics, Electric Boat, where she worked in the shipyard as part of an electrical crew on Submarine Command and Control Systems

Bristol Harbor Group Announces Two New Hires

architect Zachary Gilfus and mechanical engineer Marissa Stutzman to its naval architecture and marine engineering practice.   Gilfus is the most recent addition to BHGI, joining the team at the end of August as a naval architect and marine engineer. Gilfus graduated this past spring from Webb Institute with a Bachelor’s of Science in naval architecture and marine engineering. During his time at Webb, Gilfus interned at four different companies including Carnival Cruise Lines and General Dynamics NASSCO. Webb Institute Adds Assistant Professor of Marine Engineering

Webb Institute has appointed Benjamin H. Scott as the Assistant Professor of Marine Engineering. Scott is a design engineer with over 30 years of experience in thermal and hydraulic analysis, heat exchanger design, thermal performance testing and fluid system design.    Scott recently retired from Exelon Corporation as the senior manager of design engineering at their Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant in Lusby, Md., where he oversaw a staff of 60 multidiscipline engineers responsible for all plant modifications and improvements, maintenance of the plant’s design and licensing basis

NYK Partners with KOSEN

 Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) and the National Institute of Technology (KOSEN) agreed to collaborate in the fields of education and public relations for the purpose of human resources development in the maritime industry and the promotion of maritime affairs awareness.   NYK has a number of programs to educate the next generation of seafarers, and one of those programs facilitates international student-exchanges between students at KOSEN maritime schools and the NYK-TDG Maritime Academy, which NYK operates in the Philippines.   In addition to these overseas exchange programs
