Hehr Named Security Director at Port of Long Beach

The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners has appointed Casey Hehr to lead the Security Division at the nation’s second-busiest seaport.Hehr has been with the Port of Long Beach since November 2016, serving as the Assistant Director of Security. He has been the acting director of the division since March, following the retirement of the previous director.Prior to his position at the Port, Hehr served with the U.S. Coast Guard for more than 20 years, retiring as the Chief of Operations and Response for the Los Angeles-Long Beach Sector. 'Maritime Center of Excellence' Launched in Long Beach

.The Port of Long Beach Maritime Center of Excellence at Long Beach City College will target a variety of programs for occupations in the global logistics and supply chain industries that require more education than a high school diploma, but less than a four-year college degree.The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners recently approved $60,000 in funding for the program’s first year as a pilot project. New Comms Director at Port of Long Beach

 The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners on Thursday approved the selection of Kerry Gerot to lead the Port’s Communications and Community Relations Division. The appointment is effective August 19.   Gerot is currently the Public Affairs Officer for the Long Beach City Manager’s Office, a position she has held for almost three years. As Director of Communications and Community Relations for the Port, she will oversee media relations, crisis communications, community engagement and educational outreach at the Harbor Department.    The Communications Division

The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners approved the selection of Stacey Lewis as Director of Human Resources Services to lead the division that administers employment for the Harbor Department. The appointment is effective July 1. Lewis, the Port’s Assistant Director of Human Resources, was promoted to Director following the retirement of the previous HR Director. The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners this week named two Harbor Department engineering leaders as the new Chief Harbor Engineer and the new Director of Program Management. The Appointments are effective April 29.   Suzanne Plezia, the Port's Director of Construction Management, has been promoted to Senior Director of the Engineering Bureau’s Program Delivery Group. Port of Long Beach Approves Project Labor Agreement

Port of Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners have approved a plan Monday to expand the port’s use of locally hired, disadvantaged and veteran workers for more than $700 million in construction projects.   Under the new Project Labor Agreement (PLA) with the Los Angeles/Orange Counties Building and Construction Trades Council, at least 40 percent of the work on port construction projects must be done by local residents (Los Angeles and Orange counties), 15 percent by disadvantaged workers and 10 percent by veterans. Long Beach Harbor Commission Elects Officers

The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners elected Lori Ann Farrell Harrison as its new Board President on Monday.   The five-member Harbor Commission, which oversees the Port of Long Beach, also selected Lou Anne Bynum as Vice President and Tracy Egoscue as Secretary.
