Maritime Partners Aim to Increase Opportunities for Women
Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA International) and Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (The Institute) are partnering to increase the professional competence and enhance educational opportunities for women in the maritime industry. In a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has signed in London, the two organizations will offer five scholarships annually over the next 10 years to individuals nominated by WISTA International. Malta Maritime Forum Targets Professional Education
The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers and the Malta Maritime Forum have signed an MoU which will support the education of shipping professionals in Malta as part of the island’s maritime growth strategy. The MoU formalizes informal co-operation between the MMF and the Institute which goes back 40 years and will serve as a vehicle to jointly formulate and develop activities. Wilson Joins American Club’s Asia Office
as a marine casualty investigator at an international law firm, both based in Hong Kong. , has appointed Kevin Strachan as head of finance. The new role will require Strachan to lead the finance function in each of Seatronics’ global bases and divisions. Strachan holds a masters degree in accounting from Aberdeen University, and a chartered accountant designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland. With more than 20 years of experience, he has held a number of managerial roles, including chief financial officer at Chantry Networks in Toronto, Canada, and group financial controller for the Ferguson Group in the U.K

XL Catlin has announced the promotion of Rob McAdams to the position of Chief Underwriting Officer for Global Marine with immediate effect. Liberia Opens Maritime Training Institute
The Liberia Maritime Training Institute (LMTI) was officially opened by Liberia President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf during an inauguration ceremony in Marshall City, Liberia, on January 5. The facility is named after John G Bestman, former Liberian finance minister and a member of the board of governors of the Central Bank of Liberia. Under the management of the Liberian International Ship & Corporate Registry (LISCR), LMTI has undergone a massive renovation and facility modernization program over the past two years, resulting in the creation of a new campus and state-of-the-art facilities.
